Two-year-old filly Somethinabouther (Mendelssohn x Phantom Proton) broke through at the Grade 3 level in the Mazarine Stakes at Woodbine today.
The filly has been competitive in Stakes company since breaking her Maiden at Ellis Park and we are pleased to see her return to the Winner’s Circle in Graded Stakes competition. Somethinabouther broke alertly and settled in behind the leaders through the early stages of the one and one sixteenth mile event. Jockey Declan Cannon allowed her to gallop in a good rhythm down the backstretch a couple lengths behind the leader in fifth position. He tipped the filly out and asked her to improve her position around the far turn, to which she willing obliged. Somethinabouther had to wear down a tenacious leader in the stretch and finally got to the front with one sixteenth of a mile left to run. The filly saw off a late run from an outside opponent to win by a neck on the wire.
It was a perfectly timed ride by jockey Declan Cannon and we couldn’t be happier to achieve Graded success with this talented filly. Congratulations to winning owners X Men Racing, Madaket and SF Bloodstock. The future certainly looks bright for this two-year-old filly!
