Special Wan (IRE) (Belardo (IRE) x Fast Jazz (IRE)) made an impressive return to the races at Gulfstream Park today.
Last seen at Keeneland in October, this five-year-old filly certainly benefitted from a bit of a freshening and was fully of run in this Grade Three event. She began well and was quickly in to stride to sit in second position through the first turn. Special Wan (IRE) traveled in a nice rhythm for jockey Luis Saez through the middle stages of running. As the field moved into the final turn, the filly began to quicken and close the gap between herself and the leader. When the field turned for home, Luis asked the filly to find the finish and she unleashed an impressive turn of foot to overtake the leader with a furlong left to run. Special Wan (IRE) continued to quicken through the straight to cross the finish a one and one quarter length victor.
We couldn’t be happier to see this talented filly achieve Graded Stakes success and we look forward to a fun Spring with her moving forward. Congratulations to winning Owners Team Valor, LLC and Steven Rocco.
Bourbon Memory (Bolt d’Oro x Take A Memo) extended her winning streak to three at Turfway Park tonight. The filly broke well and went to the lead immediately, where she stayed through the entirety of the running. Stepping up to two turns for the first time, the filly was able to bowl along through easy fractions for jockey Gerardo Corrales. Bourbon Memory let down to find the finish but had to share the prize with Foxtastic, who managed to get up just in time to dead heat for the victory. Our filly has had a very lucrative winter at Turfway Park and we look forward to seeing what else she can achieve this Spring. Congratulations to all involved with this talented filly.
