Gosger (Nyquist x Gloria S) made a big step up in class to secure an emphatic victory in Graded Stakes company at Keeneleand today. The lightly race three-year-old colt, previously only tested at the Maiden Special Weight level, proved much the best to score by two lengths in this Grade Three event.
The royally-bred son of Nyquist flourished in his first start around two turns over the one and one sixteenth mile contest. Gosger broke evenly with the field and established position along the rail just behind the leaders. He traveled in comfortable fashion down the backstretch under jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr to maintain his spot along the rail. The colt was full of run as the field began to quicken through the far turn but remained boxed in along the rail. Irad was able to tip Gosger out at the top of the straight and asked him to find the finish. The colt showed an impressive turn of foot to take the lead, despite running a bit green through the latter stages of running to win by two lengths.
Gosger has always shown us plenty of talent on the track and we couldn’t be happier to see him step up in such impressive fashion. Congratulations to owner Harvey A. Clarke Racing Stables and all the connections involved with this horse. We were pleased to see the Owners onsite for the big win and we look forward to a big Spring and Summer with this colt.
