Special Wan (IRE) (Belardo (IRE) x Fast Jazz (IRE)) left no doubts as to which filly was best on the day in the Goldikova Stakes at Del Mar. The filly put on a spectacular display in front of a big crowd on the Breeders’ Cup undercard.
Under a patient ride by jockey Joel Rosario, Special Wan (IRE) stalked the speed after the jump and through most of the running of the one mile race. She bowled along in a lovely rhythm well behind a fast pace set by the leader. Special Wan (IRE) began to close the gap between herself and the leader as the field quickened through the far turn. The filly took the lead under a hand ride by the time the field straightened and unleashed an emphatic turn of foot to put a couple lengths between herself and the field. She won by one and a quarter lengths on the wire, geared down by Rosario.
