Twirling Aces (Twirling Candy X Kidoro) could hardly have been more impressive as she made a winning debut in a Maiden Special Weight at Churchill Downs for Pocket Aces Racing.
The well-bred filly broke sharply from the gate and quickly established a good position along the rail, settling just behind the leading group through the early stages. Despite encountering traffic issues on more than one occasion during the running, she remained composed and traveled strongly throughout, showing the professionalism of a much more experienced runner.
Turning for home, Twirling Aces was still stalking the leading trio and appeared full of running. She was angled to the outside and immediately quickened in eye-catching fashion. In a matter of strides, she swept past her rivals and put the race to bed with authority, drawing clear to score stylishly on debut under Tyler Gaffalione.
It was a performance full of promise from the daughter of Twirling Candy, who showed not only natural speed and acceleration but also the maturity to overcome adversity in running. The manner in which she finished off her race suggests there is plenty more to come as she gains experience.
