Brendan Walsh Racing had two promising runners break their Maidens at Fair Grounds Racecourse and Gulfstream Park, respectively.
The first winner was Margie’s Intention (Honor A. P. x Playful Dancer), a three-year-old Lousiana bred filly. Not disgraced in her first start with similar company over six furlongs, the filly relished the additional ground in this one mile affair to dominate her opponents. The filly began the race well, tracking the leader through the first turn and into the backstretch. Jockey Declan Cannon allowed the filly to bowl along in a lovely rhythm as they tracked the leader through the middle stages of running and into the final turn. Declan began to ask the filly for more run as the field turned for home and she obliged to sweep past the leader at the stop of the straight. Margie’s Intention galloped to the finish an impressive eleven and three-quarter length winner. We could not be more excited about this filly as she will only benefit from the added race fitness and experience moving forward. Congratulations to winning Owner Baron Stable and all others involved with this talented filly.

King of Ashes (Street Sense x Causeforcommotion) returned to the races in style with a neck victory in Maiden Special Weight company at Gulfstream Park. The penny appears to have dropped for this promising colt, as he improved from his most recent second place finish to secure the goods in this one and one sixteenth mile race. King of Ashes broke slightly to the outside but was corrected by jockey Tyler Gaffalione and allowed to settled into the run in the middle of the field. He traveled nicely just behind the leading group in a tightly packed race. Tyler asked the colt to begin to improve his position as the field began to run around the final turn and the colt obliged. As the runners reached the top of the straight, the colt let down to find the finish and saw off an inner foe to win by a neck on the line. This colt appears to be very progressive and we look forward to watching him grow and improve over the coming season. Congratulations to winning owner Trade Winds Farm and all others connected to this colt.
