Union Mist (Union Rags x Misty American) broke her Maiden impressively at Churchill Downs. The three-year-old filly had proven competitive in her previous Maiden Special Weight performances but finally got the job done for a nice victory over 1 1/16 miles.
The daughter of Union Rags broke beautifully and settled into a nice rhythm to track the leaders through the first turn and down the backstretch. Union Mist began to make a move around the far turn and advanced to third under light urging from Tyler Gaffalione with three furlongs left to run. The filly took the lead at the top of the homestretch and never looked back to score by two and a half lengths at the wire.
Union Mist has been knocking on the door for a victory all year so we are pleased to see her secure a win for Owner/Breeder Calumet Farm. Congratulations to all parties involved with this filly!
